Rescued Cat is Up for Adoption.

Pappi is a big lover of a Maine coon, smoky gray, about four to five years old. He lived outside for over two years and is now very happy to be indoors. Pappi is shy at first, but when he realizes he is not in any danger he will sit close and look for affection by giving you gentle head butts.

Pappi is the submissive type and adores the other cats at his foster home. He has good litter box manners and uses his scratching post, not the furniture.

When rescued, along with being painfully matted he had lots of cuts and scratches. While outside trying to survive,he would have to endure beatings from a cat that did not like him. Because of this, Pappi developed an auto-immune disease, however all he requires is a low cost supplement added to his food daily.

Pappi’s story is told by Sue, who contacted LOLCR:

“I just wanted to share this story with you all. First, I want to say, if you love animals, especially cats, this group of volunteers (LOLCR) is by far a stellar top notch organization. They not only rescued my stray friend pictured here, but did so within 24 hours of my asking for help. This was after I asked many other groups to help, with no success.

We called him ‘Dad’ because he fathered many kittens in my neighborhood. He wandered around our yard for a few years, begging for food at my door daily. He braved the elements — rain, wind and snow (remember last winter?).

Sometimes he would come to us dripping wet (cats are never wet!) with icicles forming on his fur. I opened my shed door and provided him bedding, food, and fresh water every day, but I always knew that wasn’t enough. In summer months, he visited with us outside on the patio, wanting so badly to be petted from head to toe. But we were always reluctant.

His fur was matted and we didn’t think it was a good idea, so we gave him short pats on the head. He loved it. Now look – he’s warm and safe and happy, and has a new outfit to grow into! What more could he want? A new family to love? He makes friends easily with other cats and loves people.

This will be an easy adoption, because Pappi (his new name) knows what its like to be homeless and he’s not feeling that anymore :) Thanks for reading this and thinking about adopting. If you can’t adopt, please ‘like’ their Facebook page and donate if possible.”

Katy Perry Finds Puppy Love in Paris.

Has this loud-and-proud cat lady had a change of heart?

Katy Perry found herself falling for a pooch after meeting a fan’s Chihuahua Wednesday in Paris.

The young fan, named Madeline, was waiting outside the singer’s hotel with her dog Gucci when Perry emerged, and the singer was immediately taken with the tiny pup. In town to attend Fashion Week, Perry took a few minutes to chat with Madeline and pose for a snuggly photo with the little furball.

While Perry – who is mom to Maine Coon Kitty Purry – has often chatted about her love for felines, it seems she can go both ways. While attending an Oscar party last month, she ran into The Artist star Uggie, and called him the “catch of the day.”

Cat

Hank the Cat, the furry, housebound, third-party candidate running to be the next U.S. senator from Virginia might be boasting that he has more Facebook friends than his Democratic rival in the race, former Gov. Tim Kaine, but it’s not all good news for the hairball-coughing campaigner.

Canines for a Feline-Free Tomorrow, the supposed political action committee opposing the Springfield cat’s candidacy, is back with another attack ad impugning Hank’s supposed ability to serve Virginia’s 8 million residents. And this time, the charges could really stick. Last week, the anti-Hank super-PAC accused Hank, a Maine coon, of being a carpetbagger. Then again, Kaine and the Republican candidate, former Sen. George Allen, weren’t born in Virginia themselves.

But the ad released over the weekend is much more damning. Imagine if, the spot suggests, that a crisis were brewing and that the junior senator from Virginia were needed to step into the fray. With the phone ringing urgently, would Hank be prepared to answer the call?

No, of course. One needs thumbs to properly work a telephone and Hank, as a cat, doesn’t measure up. What does that make Hank, in a word?

Opposable. (Groan.)

However, this attack seems a slight bit unfair. The lack of thumbs hasn’t precluded others from serving in the U.S. Senate. Former Sen. Max Cleland (D-Ga.), who lost an arm and both legs in the Vietnam War, served from 1997 to 2003, while Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii), who lost his right arm in World War II, has been a member of the Senate since 1963.

Watch the ad, created by the Virginia filmmakers’ group The Big Honkin’, and decide if it veers too close to mocking a physical disability.

See Rita and Rocket Man at this year’s Acatemy Awards Show

Perched on a dining room chair, Rita and her brother Rocket Man stand with an air of austerity that can only emanate from a prize-winner.

Rita, an orange and white beauty named after the 2005 hurricane, has a perfect set of ears, positioned exactly three inches apart.

Rocket Man – a fifth place regional winner – appears to be aware of his elegance and mindless of who or what is in his vicinity.

“They are very gentle and dog like,” said Becky Fussell, owner of Rita and Rocket Man. “They’re very laid back most of the time.”

A panel of six out-of-state judges from the Cat Fancier Association will put these characteristics under intense scrutiny during the 21st annual Coastwind Cat Club cat show on Saturday at the Beaumont Civic Center.

Rita and Rocket Man, the 6-year-old Maine Coon siblings from Port Neches, each weigh in at about 8 to 12 pounds. On Saturday, they will be stretched, lifted and prodded to examine their beauty. A selection of toys will also test their agility (and yes, catlike reflexes) that will add to the felines’ cumulative score. It is that score that will determine what place he or she gets in different categories.

Cat patience will also surely be tested in the costume portion of Saturday’s competition, where any festively outfitted puss can win a prize.

The more serious portion of the cat pageant is divided into four categories – kittens, championship, premiership and household pets. While the kittens, championship and premiership (neutered or spayed cats) are purebred contestants, the household pet category allows any mixes to join.

“It’s a lot less stringent than the breeds,” said Beaumont resident Cissie Owens who, will be entering two household cats for friends. “[The judges] will tell you about your kitty. It’s kind of an educational thing as well.”

Of the 10 household cats pawing for a prize at the Beaumont show, many will be rescues.

Humane Society of Southeast Texas veterinarian technician Carrie May is bringing two cats: Ben, a flame point/Siamese mix, and a calico named Annelle. Ben and Annell will compete in hopes of eventually getting adopted.

Judges don’t have a set standard for evaluating a household pet, but overall cleanliness, alertness and pleasant demeanor are pluses.

“They are just as sweet and beautiful as the next cat” said May, adding that a tortoiseshell cat from the Humane Society won overall best household cat in 2010, and eventually found a home.

The show, punned the Acatemy Awards, will showcase 160 cats this year. Each contestant’s entry fee ranges from $20 to $50.

Fussell says that donations from various community supporters have been essential for keeping the show operating this year.

Purrfect Pals: Two fancy cats.

Two new cats are ready for adoption at the county’s animal shelter this week.

“Flower” and a male Maine coon are waiting to make your acquaintance.

Cats that are adopted from Lake County Animal Care and Control are either neutered or spayed and microchipped before being released to their new owner. License fees do not apply to residents of the cities of Lakeport or Clearlake .

If you’re looking for a new companion, visit the shelter. There are many great pets there, hoping you’ll choose them.

The following cats at the Lake County Animal Care and Control shelter have been cleared for adoption (other cats pictured on the animal control Web site that are not listed here are still “on hold”).

This handsome fellow is a 1-year-old Maine Coon mix.

He has gold eyes, a long gray coat and fantastic whiskers.

As a bonus, he already has been neutered.

Cat’s Senate Run Challenged by Canine Super PAC

As with Mordor, you cannot just walk into a Senate seat.

“He has enemies,” an email warned us today.

Hank, the Maine coon cat who announced his Virginia Senate campaign earlier this week, is being branded as a carpetbagger in a new video from an unnamed opposition.

“Hank has never released his birth certificate or tax returns, and has never responded to allegations that he used catnip,” the video also warns.

Near the end, the ad notes it was paid for by Canines for a Feline-Free Tomorrow Super PAC… although it was uploaded to YouTube by THE BiG HONKIN’, a group of writers, filmmakers and other creative types. We’re going to assume they were just, um, helping the dogs.

There is Hank the Cat, a Maine Coon rescue who is a write-in independent candidate for the U.S. Senate in Virginia. ABC’s Dancing With the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba has a new YouTube series about shelter cats that was prompted by her love of felines. And viewers of the NBC hit The Voice regularly spot Purrfect, a white Persian beauty, being cradled by show judge Cee Lo Green.

“Keep your eyes peeled for Purrfect,” Green says. “She’s becoming a star.” Yes, others have noticed. On her talk show, Ellen DeGeneres recently spoofed Green and his lap cat.

Inaba lets the cat out of the bag on why the creatures are so popular: “They are just really independent and have their own personalities. When they do decide to love you, it feels like an honor.”

That doesn’t mean Inaba is a canine snob. In addition to her six rescue cats, who range in age from 7 months to 17 years, there is a boxer at home, too. “Dogs tend to be a little less judgmental toward people,” Inaba says. “Cats are more discerning.”

Inaba loves felines so much that she welcomed the chance to participate in a Web show about them. “I just want to do anything that I can to get cats into forever homes,” says Inaba, an executive producer of Crib Cat on YouTube’s Petsami channel. It makes its debut March 26 . New episodes will appear Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

There is an audience. Animal Planet shows such as Must Love Cats, featuring a traveling songwriter who showcases unusual cat stories, and My Cat From Hell, about a cat whisperer who helps treat pets’ behavioral problems, each draw about 1 million cat lovers a week.

The fever has spread online. Purrfect has fans on Facebook (10,510 likes so far) and Twitter (34,600 followers). Candidate Hank’s numbers: 14,800 likes on Facebook and 1,335 Twitter followers.

Comments reach the hundreds when Purrfect’s Facebook status is updated. Her attributes? “She’s a great listener,” Green says. Does she need to work on anything? “She’s a little (too) nonchalant about things,” adds “Papa,” Purrfect’s pet name for her owner.

Green says Purrfect was a kitten a little more than a year ago when he got her to be his companion in Los Angeles while he’s away from his family in Atlanta, where he has two dogs. “Purrfect is probably my 20th cat,” says the life-long pet owner.

And will Purrfect appeal to the show’s cat fans?

“I think so,” says Emily Huh, editor of popular humor website , which highlights photos of cats with kooky captions. “If you’re an animal lover and you see another animal lover, you have an instant bond. (Although) people may not know Cee Lo, they say, ‘Hey, he loves his cat just like how I love my cat.’ They feel that connection.”

When told that Purrfect just might rally feline lovers’ votes for his Voice team, Green says: “I think it’s great. I represent those people. They have a voice. No pun intended.”

He tells fans to look for Purrfect on more episodes, and she might even appear on the live shows that start April 2.

“She’s going through training,” he says. “Hopefully, she’ll be prepared by then to come out to the main stage and sit with me in the chair, which she likes.”
